This interactive direct instruction class has been designed for English-speaking elementary students from Pre-Pre K - 2nd grade. Students will be exposed in multiple ways as they watch a video clip, practicing the new knowledge in games, songs, and a rhyming poem. When I prepare the lesson, I have in mind all these ages and varieties of learning of toddlers and children that will help the student to own what was learned. Students must understand the reading foundations to build day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year the new knowledge. We never stop learning and the fundamentals are established in the early years of life. Fulghum said, "All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten." Dr. Doman said, however, "Kindergarten is too late." My teaching style is serious and formal but active, fun, and relaxed. I am flexible and patient to accommodate the student's age and style of learning. In these classes, students will learn about the early reading skills that will prepare them for a smooth transition to school or, once in school, cope with the pace of the teacher's scope and sequence of the curriculum. In upcoming classes, we can learn about blending and segmenting and consonant sounds and letters. Finally, we will include information in the form of worksheets for extra practice in class or at home.
Learning Goals
Students will improve the four reading foundations: letter identification, lower/upper case, word recognition, and rhyming.
