In this intermediate calligraphy course students will be taught how to develop their own calligraphy style. We use regular classroom markers and build upon the skills learned in my beginner course, 'Learn Calligraphy with a Crayola Marker'. Students will learn how different calligraphy styles communicate different moods and attitudes. We will cover the following topics: -Basic vocabulary for calligraphers -Basics of typography -How to create even slant and spacing -How the style of letters communicate an attitude or mood -How calligraphy and typography in advertising and daily life is used to make the viewer feel a specific attitude or mood -Explore various letter forms Week 1- Week one will be an introduction to the anatomy of letters (this will be a more in-depth study than what is covered in my beginner course) and basic vocabulary for calligraphers. Students will also learn the basics of typography to help us understand the art of text. Week 2- Week two we will do a variety of lettering drills to practice slant and spacing. Students will be introduced to how spacing, slant, and letter characteristics produce a mood or attitude used to make us feel a certain way when we look at them. Week 3- Week three we will dive in-depth into the attitude of letters. We will practice various letter forms. Students will be able to explore different calligraphy styles as they learn to develop their own style. Students will practice creating moods using the tools we learned in week two. This is an interactive hands-on course. I will demonstrate each practice drill. Students will be able to watch me complete each exercise and will be given time in class to practice themselves. Students will be provided with worksheets to follow along. We will also have discussion times. Together as a class we will learn to identify moods that different calligraphy styles present. I highly recommend students take my ‘Learn Calligraphy with a Crayola Marker’ Class before enrolling in this intermediate course.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a Fine Art Letterpress Stationer and Calligrapher. That’s a whimsical way to say I make very fancy wedding invitations using calligraphy, illustration, and old print method called letterpress. As much as I love working with my brides I have a passion for teaching art to children! The skills I teach my students in Outschool are skills that I am using in my business on a daily basis! I look forward to creating with you!
