This twice-a-week band class will supplement (or replace, where necessary) in-person band classes. Students will have the opportunity to learn, practice, perfect, and perform music on their band instruments individually, in small groups, and as a "band" **Note: this class is for intermediate level band students who have been playing in class, lessons, and/or an ensemble for at least 2 full years already. If you are looking for a beginner band class, please look for my Ongoing Class for grades 5-8! Students should be able to read music and know almost all of the notes on their instruments prior to enrolling in this band class. If you are unsure if the class is right for your child, please send me a message and we will figure it out together! Also, all students should have their own personal instrument to play at home. See the "learner supplies" section for more details. In this band class, students will learn about the following topics: - Key signatures - Meters / Time Signatures - Major Scales - Rhythm - Breathing Technique / Breath Support - Performance Skills Students will be expected to play their instruments for the teacher and class. They will often receive feedback letting them know how awesome they are, as well as what they should continue to work on to improve their playing! Students will often be asked to give each other feedback, which will always be kind and helpful! During rhythm studies, students will be asked to play, clap, or count rhythms aloud for the class, as a group, or as individuals. We will also focus on learning BAND PIECES because they are fun and allow us to feel more like an ensemble. We will learn as much band music as we can! Each week we will work on a new major "scale of the week", as well as short pieces of music. At the end of the semester, students will perform solos and/or small ensemble pieces for the class. Class will begin the 2nd week of August. - Week 1: Concert F major Scale & chorales / music; Breathing Technique, Breath Support & Posture; 4/4, 3/4, 2/4 Time..and remembering how to do music! - Week 2: Concert Bb major Scale & chorales / music; Dotted rhythms - Week 3: Concert Eb major Scale & chorales / music; Dotted rhythms & 5/4, 7/4 Time - Week 4: Concert Ab major Scale & chorales / music; Triplets & 16th-note Triplets - Week 5: Concert Ab major Scale & chorales / music; 6/8, 12/8 Time - Week 6: Concert Db major Scale & chorales / music; 6/8, 12/8 Time + advanced rhythms
