The Louvre is a national art museum in Paris, France. A central landmark of the city, it is located on the Right Bank of the Seine and home to some of the most iconic works of Western art, including the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. In this art history class we will explore the evolution of the Louvre museum and look at a selection of the most famous paintings and sculptures in the Louvre such as the Wedding at Cano, The Virgin of the Rocks, Saint John the Baptiste, The Mona Lisa, The Apotheosis of Homer, The Lacemaker and The Astronomer. I will discuss the artist and the background of each painting before offering each learner the chance to describe what they think is happening in the painting, how they would describe the painting and what they like/dislike about the painting. At the end of the class there will be a friendly and interactive quiz (no pressure on learners to answer, only if they wish to). No prior experience or knowledge needed - all are welcome.
