1 hour per week. After sessions 1 & 2, practice problems with answer key are provided. Additionally, we will have about 5 minutes near the beginning of the following session for questions that came up while completing the practice. I'm available to answer questions by Outschool message between classes. I don't check or grade the homework individually.Class Experience
US Grade 8 - 10
The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide positive and negative numbers is essential to success in Algebra. Needing to rely on a calculator for basic operations like these only adds to the mental load when learning more complicated algebra topics. So, let's make this part simpler! We'll use a silly rhyme to give our brains something to remember, and practice applying this to many, many practice problems. Session 1-adding and subtracting integers Session 2-multiplying and dividing integers Session 3-mixed practice and review I use scaffolded instruction, which simply means that I provide more support at the beginning and gradually learners work more and more independently with each new problem. I provide guidance and feedback throughout each session. Learners will be provided with reference sheets. Additionally, students will receive practice problems (with answer keys). We'll have some time to go over specific practice questions near the beginning of the next session. I'm a high school math teacher with a master’s degree in Education, and I specialize in working with students who struggle with math. Questions? Always feel free to message me here on Outschool.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Georgia Teaching Certificate in Mathematics
Is your learner failing math?
Does your teen say things like…
I can’t do math!
I’ll never get this.
I’m going to fail this math class!
I’m so dumb.
Well, you’re in the right place.
HI! I’m Mary Kennedy, certified math teacher, and I love working with students who struggle with high school math and doubt that they can do it.
I've taught Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 and have more than 20 years of teaching experience. My Master's degree is in Learning Disabilities.
In my classes, students connect their learning to critical thinking skills (includes reasoning, analysis, and perseverance) and growth mindset (“I haven’t learned this YET.”).
I strive to make the math concepts accessible to struggling learners.
Help your teen regain confidence and learn the skills they need to pass Algebra.
Don’t let math continue to disrupt your family’s life.
About Mrs. K.
I do life in a tiny tourist town with my husband and three kids (when they're home from college).
Twice, my family has had the unique and wonderful experience of hosting students from Southeast Asia in our home and community. We have maintained friendships with these students and their families for several years now through technology, despite our geographic distance.
I love working with students from every country and encourage their language skills in my math classes.
