US Grade 7 - 10
This class is Part 1 of the Insect Research Series. However, learners can take each part out of order as each class does not build on each other. Background knowledge is NOT required for this class. Each week, we will research and discuss a different insect following the schedule below: Week of June 10: Violin beetle Week of June 17: Mourning cloak 3: Luna moth 4: Spiny flower mantis 5: Monarch butterfly 6: Hairy rove beetle 7: Hummingbird clearwing moth 8: Elephant beetle 9: Panda ant 10: Soybean aphid 11: Southern flannel moth 12: North American wheel bug After we have covered the 12 insects, the class is going to cycle back to insect 1. Some of the information that learners will research and discuss in class includes: Scientific classification Physical characteristics Behavior Lifecycle Reproduction Habitat The class will primarily be structured as a discussion guided by the information that learners find during the in-class research. After we have covered the 12 insects, learners can download the google doc used in class to put together a mini encyclopedia of the insects.

Learners will be conducting online research before (OPTIONAL) and during class.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
