Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 4
In this guided reading class, the class will meet twice a week for thirty minutes. The students will be presented leveled reading passage/text. The text will be on varied types of genres such as: Realistic Friction, Fiction, and Informational Texts.
The Guided Lessons will be presented through the skills-based model of instruction. The lessons reflect a range of the Reading Literature, common core state standards for their current grade level.
The components of each lesson include a preview of the text and review of specific vocabulary related to text and phonemic awareness. A specific reading skill such as questioning and inferring and a reading strategy or ways to help the reader achieve the reading goal. After the reading is completed, the students will respond to specific questions about the new skills. The students are guided to ask and respond to questions as they read to develop skills in key ideas and details to synthesize, process, and comprehend their text.
I have outlined the Reading Curriculum below with the skills and passages/texts we will be reading. The following meeting titles and skills will be presented through power point presentation and our bitmoji classroom where students will meet to conduct their reading and complete their assignments.

As an elementary classroom teacher, I have taught reading through guided reading for many years and worked throughout the year in enrichment programs. Each type of genre offers new and explicit reading skills and strategies that students are able to apply, use and retain the information that they are presented and have read. Along the way they are building fluency and gaining in their reading abilities. I have seen young readers grow and develop newly found literacy skills in both reading and writing about reading that fosters their independence. I have seen students achieve success and growth with starting a new beginning in guided reading.
