In this ongoing class, students read and discuss popular teen books focusing on reading comprehension, vocabulary, plot, characters, important quotes and more!

Class experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Students will improve their reading comprehension skills by answering questions and participating in discussions.
Students will gain knowledge of new vocabulary words by defining unknown words and participating in discussions. 
Students will learn/review plot elements (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution) by participating in discussions. 
Students will analyze text evidence for characterization, and theme by participating in a discussion. 
I am a certified English teacher and Reading Specialist with 15 years of teaching experience. 
Homework Offered
Students are expected to read the assigned chapters, complete reading comprehension questions and vocabulary. The number of pagers varies based on the book. The homework should take about 2 hours to complete each week, depending on the reader. **Please contact the instructor for accommodations :).
2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Teacher will assess student learning based on discussion responses and reading comprehension question answers.

Students should have a copy of the book with them at home. These books can be found at the local library and online. The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare Double Identity by Margaret Peterson Haddix And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie Divergent by Veronica Roth The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes The instructor will be supplying background information videos, reading comprehension questions, and vocabulary graphic organizers.
In Divergent, there are references to intimacy on pages 392, 393, 394, 402, 403, 406 and 407. 
In Double Identity, cloning is a big part of the plot. 
In Sign of the Beaver, there is mention of Native Americans, the use of "savages", and a boy visits a Native American tribe.
