Not only is reading an essential life skill, but it can be a source of entertainment. In this course, teen students dive into exciting novels for this age group. Through completing class activities, students will practice reading comprehension skills, identifying plot events, describing characters, determining problems, defining vocabulary words, and recognizing themes in books. - Students will learn/review plot elements (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution) by participating in discussions.
- Students will analyze text evidence for characterization, and theme by participating in a discussion.
- Students will improve their reading comprehension skills by answering questions and participating in discussions.

Students should have a copy of the book with them at home. These books can be found at the local library and online. Double Identity by Margaret Peterson Haddix And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie Divergent by Veronica Roth The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes The instructor will be supplying background information videos, reading comprehension questions, and vocabulary graphic organizers.
In Divergent, there are references to intimacy on pages 392, 393, 394, 402, 403, 406 and 407. In Double Identity, cloning is a big part of the plot. And Then There Were None focuses on murders.
