Assessment
I will informally assess students during our meetings and keep parents updated about their child's progress.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 8
If you do not see a time that works for you, please use the "Request Another Time" button to share your availability. I will respond quickly and, hopefully, we can schedule a time that works for us both. This is an ongoing class (weekly subscription). I also offer 6 week long sessions that can be renewed if that is more convenient for you. Sometimes, students need a little boost to build their confidence in math class. They need to see that it's okay to make mistakes as long as they learn from those mistakes. That's where progress happens! Through private tutoring, I hope to provide that little boost for students that struggle with the math concepts they are learning. Each week's lesson will be led by the individual student's needs. Meaning, I will help in whatever way most benefits the learner. Depending on the student's needs, I will offer homework assistance, help with studying for tests or help with correcting previously taken tests, provide test-taking tips, focus on a specific difficult topic, or even provide enrichment for students that can't get enough math. I have experience in working with students with learning disabilities and ADHD as well as accelerated math students so I am able to support all students' needs. If you choose to enroll in these tutoring sessions, I will send a welcome message along with a request to learn more about your child's needs. In this way, I can prepare for our first meeting together.
Learning Goals
Students will develop their skills in the math topics they are learning in their classes.

Hello! My name is Carrie and I am excited to share my love of math with students here on Outschool. I believe that building students’ confidence in mathematics is key to their success in future classes. My goal is to help each student gain a full understanding of the prerequisite concepts taught in middle school which will then lead to confidence and success in their high school math courses. I want my students to know that math can be fun and rewarding. I’ve always related solving math problems to completing puzzles: they can be challenging but enjoyable to work through. I hope to share this belief with my students.
Previously, as a public school teacher, I taught several different age groups and subjects. I started in 4th grade and taught all four core subjects. After two years, I chose to try something new and moved to 6th grade. I spent 6 years teaching special education with a focus on math and science. While I loved working with students with special needs, I learned that my true passion was teaching math so I began to teach 7th grade mathematics. I continued to work with students with special needs in my collaborative classes but I also enjoyed working with students of varying levels, including advanced students. Eventually, I decided to leave the public school system and homeschool my high school aged daughter. I also taught my homeschooled nephew 6th grade math as well as pre-algebra. Currently, I am back in the public school system and teach 7th grade math again. I currently hold a Virginia teaching license and am licensed to teach Elementary (PK – 6), General Special Education (K – 12), and Middle School Math (6 – 8).
As an Outschool teacher, I offer full curriculum 6th and 7th grade FLEX math classes. These courses (4 units each) cover all of the topics required for 6th and 7th grade. These courses are designed to be a starting point & guide for homeschooling families. They are also useful for supplementing and enriching the math classes that students enrolled in public schools take.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and our cat, reading, gardening, vacationing, and going to concerts and movies.
