Homework
1 hour per week. Students will be asked to practice each week’s meditation on their own 2-3 times before the next class, and to share feedback. Feedback will follow a format: How was I feeling before I meditated? Why did I meditate then? How did I feel after? What techniques did I use? What will I try differently next time? What will I keep the same? If you meditated to try to help a particular situation or experience , pleas explain if.how you think it affected the situation or experience? These questions are designed to deepen the learner’s own practice and self-understanding and to help their classmates develop and grow as well.

Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
The Meditation Basics course is designed to empower participants to meditate on their own for four different purposes: Improving focus, Stress Management, Self-Regulation and Positivity.

Each week we will learn a different type of meditation and focus on a different principle of meditation.

Week 1: Introduction to meditation and the class: Beginning with a guided meditation to build our mental meditation space, we will then turn to a discussion of why we meditate, how meditation works, what we will cover,

Week 2: Meditation to improve focus with emphasis on hand positions

Week 3: Meditation for stress management, with emphasis on breathing

Week 4: Meditation for self-regulation and inner balance, with emphasis on posture

Week 5: Meditation for positivity, optimism and ownership, with emphasis on visualization

Week 6: Pulling it all together: sharing mini -meditations that integrate hand positions, posture, breath and visualization, so learners can meditate independently using all their new tools.

Learning Goals

Students will learn the basics of how meditation works for them and how to practice meditation anywhere, anytime, to help them their own find calm, focus, balance, and/or positive attitude, based on the techniques and methods we practice.
