Homework
1 hour per week. I will assign review homework which will be to read the passages and words that we read in class. Other homework might be to complete word work or sentence writing that we did not complete in class. This homework is optional, but for best results, learners should review the work to help reinforce the lesson.Assessment
I will assess the needs of the learner during the first class, using an informal reading and spelling assessment. I will repeat this assessment every 6-8 weeks.Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 6
Beginner Level
I offer a unique approach to tutoring by integrating multiple teaching methods that are based on the Science of Reading to create a comprehensive learning experience that supports learners to develop important literacy skills. Each class will begin with a review of previously learned concepts, phonemic awareness activities, phonics exercises, writing practice, vocabulary development, and fluency practice. I use worksheets, various texts, slides, and discussion in my lessons. If your child has a particular interest, I would be happy to incorporate that into the lessons to increase engagement. What I offer in this class: Personalized Learning: I combine my training in the Orton-Gillingham approach with other methods to provide lessons that are individualized, structured, and designed to address your child's needs. Efficient Progress: I integrate steam-lined activities into each lesson that are designed to accelerate your child's reading and spelling skills without the need for memorizing spelling rules. Adaptability: I can adapt lessons to fit your child's unique learning profile and preferences. Does your child love monster trucks? I can incorporate that into the lesson. Does your child need to wiggle and move around? We can make that part of the learning plan. Comprehensive Learning Opportunities: I cover all aspects of literacy development (reading, spelling, vocabulary development, writing practice, and comprehension) into each lesson. Support and Encouragement: Learning to read and write are challenging tasks that leave many students feeling discouraged and overwhelmed. I strive to provide a safe, supportive, and encouraging space for struggling students. The lesson schedule: Week 1 - Introduction, get to know your child and their interests . Informal reading and spelling assessment to determine needs. Weeks 2-6 - Structured and explicit literacy lessons based on assessment Weeks 7 - Re-assessment to determine future lesson plans.
Learning Goals
Learners will gain knowledge and skills in all areas of literacy, including reading, writing, comprehension, and vocabulary development.
