Inclusive Middle School Homeschool Learning Pod - All Subjects - Live Class

Each week we will use videos and games to practice math, science, geography, English, and life skills. This class is designed to meet the needs of students who prefer a more engaging approach to learning or may have learning differences.

Homework
Students may be given OPTIONAL homework to complete. For example, the game played live in the classroom will be shared with the students, so they can practice more if they choose.

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Does your middle school learner typically dislike "school?"  Does your learner prefer to learn using games and videos?    If you answered yes to either of these questions, then this might be the class you didn't even know you were looking for.  :)  This inclusive middle school pod will meet 4x each week, once daily Monday - Thursday.  This class will give your learner the opportunity to practice social skills while practicing concepts from math, English, geography, and science each week. 

In this ongoing class, we will follow this schedule:

Weekly Schedule: 
Monday: Geography
Tuesday: Math topic
Wednesday: English
Thursday: Science topic

Daily Schedule:
~10 minutes - Welcome/Social Time 
~15 minutes - Learning Activity (includes videos and visuals - not just a boring lecture)
~15 minutes - Game Activity (students will have fun - while showing what they've learned - playing a Kahoot or Gimkit game).
~5 minutes - Wrap Up (students will be polled to decide future learning topics during this time)

Example topics to be covered:
Week 1:
Monday - US States  (geography) 
Tuesday - Money (math)
Wednesday - Identifying parts of speech (English)
Thursday - Weather - the water cycle (science)

Week 2:
Monday - US States/Capitals (geography) 
Tuesday - Making Change (math)
Wednesday - Identifying parts of speech (English)
Thursday - Weather -  air masses & weather fronts (science)

Week 3:
Monday - Landforms (geography) 
Tuesday - Rounding  (math)
Wednesday - Identifying complete sentences/fragments (English)
Thursday - Weather -  Extreme Weather (science)

Week 4:
Monday - Weathering and Erosion (geography)
Tuesday - Units of Measurement  (math)
Wednesday - Identifying complete sentences/run-on sentences (English)
Thursday - Weather -  Natural Disasters (science)

Parental Guidance
I will be using a variety of tools to keep the students engaged (and wanting to come back to class). The following tools may be utilized: YouTube Gimkit Kahoot **Students will not be required to have an account or login to use any of these learning tools.
