The class will start with introductions. I will start by introducing my name Teacher Sarah. I will say hello to each student. I will then ask for the pictures (printed or digital) that the students brought to class. (If they choose to bring a picture.) The class will be divided into 4 parts. First : We will discuss where the Inca Empire was located. We will look at the map of South America. We will map their sites and name the countries where the Inca people had settlements. We will discuss how they moved from settlement to settlement and the housing the structures they built. Second: In the second part of the class we will discuss their writing. We will look at the way the Inca people calculated numbers. We will look at some example and calculate using some examples.The Incas had a type of postal system where relay messengers ran across rope bridges to deliver communications to other messengers. Third: We will learn at The Inca highway and road system across Peru with over 18,000 miles of roads. The Incas used advanced farming techniques such as canals and ditches to irrigate their crops in Peru. This advanced water management allowed the Inca to thrive and expand along much of the coast of Peru. Fourth: We will learn about Machu Picchu and the mystery behind the history of this wonderful city. End: Students will learning about the Inca people today and civilization left behind. Students will see through short videos how the Inca empire has been preserved. Worksheets will be provided so students can practice ‘quipu’ for record keeping. Students will also see videos of how the Inca structures have been preserve through out Peru.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to how the ancient Inca civilization strived and contributed to today's society.
