Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Intermediate Level
In this writing course, students will be taught how to properly structure a descriptive writing paragraph. The lesson will focus on using our senses when writing a descriptive paragraph. Students will be taught how to integrate the five senses and apply them to their writing activities. A thorough explanation will be provided pertaining to adjectives and adverbs. Students will also be taught how to use proper parts of speech to enhance their writing.

Students will be encouraged to engage and provide examples to show their understanding and demonstrate their ability to differentiate between adjectives and adverbs. Also, students will be encouraged to provide descriptive examples using those parts of speech both verbally and in written form. Next, students will learn about the importance of organizing ideas and how to compare information using a Venn Diagram.

Further, students will be required to distinguish between factual and opinionated information. A lesson will be presented with examples on what consists of facts and what consists of an opinion. Students will participate in an interactive discussion and they will be encouraged to share their opinions on topics that I will present to them.

Students will be encouraged to write an opinionated piece pertaining to any topic of their choice. In addition, students will learn about the different moods and tones they can use in writing when describing a setting. As well, a lesson on point of view will teach students about the 1st, 2nd and 3rd POV perspectives.

Finally, students will focus on integrating all the lessons that have been taught throughout the unit and students will be asked to write their own story. The story will be a creative writing assignment and templates will be presented in class which students can use to help them brainstorm information.

I have fourteen+ years of experience teaching Language to students of all ages. I have graduated with a 4.0 and hold a Master of Education degree, HBASc (Criminology) degree, Social Service Worker diploma, and Law Clerk diploma.

Throughout my career as an English tutor, I have helped students with their English courses. I am fluent in the English language and I am very familiar of the requirements that students must achieve in order to be successful in their writing courses. For example, I have helped students structure essays from beginning to end and taught how to properly structure sentences, how to integrate valuable supporting details, how to properly source, include in-text citations, analyze academic journals, and how to paraphrase information that is relevant to the topic at hand.

Writing is a skill that requires attention to detail and it requires students to pay close attention to their topic so that they do not present irrelevant information in their piece. As an English tutor, I teach students how to stay on topic, formulate a topic sentence, use strong adjectives and adverbs to provide great description to their writing, how to target different audiences, how to appropriately and professionally write a persuasive piece, and how to organize ideas so that writing is presented in a cohesive and clear manner.

Throughout my career, I have worked with students as young as six years old to students who are in their fourth year of university. I am an educator who pays close attention to detail and I teach students how to elaborate their thoughts. Many times, students can get very discouraged because they can only come up with one or two thoughts about a certain topic. I do not let that discourage my students; instead, I help them expand their ideas by posing additional questions which allows them to delve deeper into their topic.

My education is a combination of various academic disciplines which allows me to provide students with plenty examples and samples of how to properly write. I strongly believe that my expertise will inspire and help students develop their potentials in becoming amazing writers.
