Assessment
The Assessments will be provided to the students during class (they are welcome to complete them in or outside of class but they are not required to complete them). The assessments will also only be given out twice during the course. One during week two and the second one during week 4. The assessments are engaging forms that will help assess how of much of the information the students are understanding.

Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
Join Mr. Malcolm for an engaging and challenging adventure as we dive into the middle of a chapter book, and your job is to use the information you read to figure out where the story starts and where it will end!

🗓️ The class will meet 2 times a week for 4 weeks and we won't be simply reading all day! Each week we will be learning important concepts that will help advance and grow your child's reading comprehension!

We will do this by learning and practicing comprehensive reading strategies and concepts that will help us achieve reading success. Some of the main concepts and skills we may learn about and use include...

1️⃣Identifying Foreshadows
2️⃣Analyzing Characters
3️⃣Using Inferences
4️⃣Author's Purpose

These reading skills are quite essential for all readers to have and are extremely helpful for building their reading self awareness and critical thinking skills! Not to mention, it would be a bit difficult to figure out what the story is about without these skills, especially if I were to just throw them into chapter 8 without giving assistance!

🆓📝To help the information truly stick, there will be print out worksheets posted for each week to help the students organize their thoughts when learning about the different reading concepts.

During the course Students will also be given assessment "quizes" which are interactive evaluation forms. These will be given in the middle and at the end of the course to see how well the students are understanding the material :). (The students are not required to complete them).

❓IS THIS CAMP RIGHT FOR YOUR STUDENT❓

In order to help you determine if this class/book is the right fit for your student, here is a passage from the text.

Please ask your student to read the passage and if they are able to pronounce and comprehend the majority of the text then this class maybe the right fit! If they are mostly struggling with pronouncing some of the words then this would also be good for them as we will be working on breaking down bigger words into syllables while reading. However, if you're student is struggling to comprehend what they read then this class might not be the right fit.

📖📖📖
“Got him this time—that’s a fact!” cried Lucas, hauling in the line. “He’s swallowed the bait right down to his tail, I declare. Oh what a thumper!”
As the fish came struggling to the surface, we leaned forward to see it, and overbalanced the log. Lucas threw his arms round the fish’s neck; and, in another instant, we were all floundering in the water!
A shout of laughter burst from us as we rose to the surface like three drowned rats, and seized hold of the log. We soon recovered our position, and sat more warily, while Lucas secured the fish.
Now, while we were thus intent upon our fishing, our attention was suddenly attracted by a ripple on the sea, just a few yards away from us. Lucas shouted to us to paddle in that direction, as he thought it was a big fish, and we might have a chance of catching it. But Jack, instead of complying, said, in a deep, earnest tone of voice, which I never before heard him use—
“Haul up your line, Lucas; seize your paddle; quick—it’s a shark!”

I hope to see your student in class soon! :)

Hello everyone!

I am very thankful to be teaching here on outschool. I have been working with children now for nearly 7 years and have been able to teach over 3000 online classes. I have a wide variety of experience from working with charter schools, local government recreation positions, public school programs and multiple online teaching platforms. Over the years I’ve had multiple educator roles such as Online Teaching, Homeschooling, Reading Tutor, Soccer Coach, Bible teacher, Sunday School, Fitness Educator, Camp Counselor and an ESL Teacher. During that time I have been able to teach a variety of different topics including English, Reading, Math, Finance, Fitness, Health, Technology and more.

I received my Bachelors degree from the University of North Florida while studying Health Science/Fitness. I was also in charge of putting together a health awareness program for struggling students while working with a charter school.

Afterwards I began working with multiple different curriculums and have specialized in working with struggling readers and began creating custom reading evaluations and courses that are tailored to help students improve in all areas of reading including speed, accuracy, pronunciation and comprehension.

You may also see that I offer typing courses which were designed to help students learn the foundational skills of typing on a computer by building and utilizing proper finger positioning, muscle memory and visual/kinesthetic accuracy while also incorporating challenging and engaging typing games/lessons.

I really do enjoy teaching many different topics and learning more everyday as I believe there is an infinite amount of wisdom to learn so we should never stop learning.

My goal as a teacher is to Equip, Encourage and Challenge each of my students to not just learn the information but rather to learn it and use it wisely in their lives.

If you have any questions please send me a message :)
