Class Experience

This class is for students who are in need to practice their conversational Russian and meet new Russian speaking friends. Learn the language using the immersion technique. Just exposure to listening and speaking using visuals and questions. This class is for Beginner levels only. If you learner is able to have a short conversation in Russian and knows a few words, please see my other class listings for the Elementary Level - Early Intermediate class.

In this class we will try to speak as little English as possible. We will not be following a textbook, rather we will learn Russian fast and naturally.

Russian is widely believed to be one of the most difficult languages to learn. Despite that, I truly believe that your learner too can speak and understand Russian. The goal is to find the learning technique that will work for your child. Books or textbooks can be useful in learning the theory. But if you want to speak, you need to practice, practice and practice again. I invite you to try this class, in which we will practice, make mistakes and learn together using the immersion technique. Note: There will be no Worksheets shared with the learners and no formal homework. Learners are encourages to take notes during the class and practice speaking outside of the class if they would like.

Class Structure:
- students' introduction and class rules reviews (only new students can introduce themselves in English)
- introduction of new words/expressions (learners are asked to repeat each word and are encouraged to take notes if they would like)
- discussion of different topics or pictures, answering and asking questions to other learners in the class, creating a conversation, occasionally playing games (depending on the topic).

Class Rules:
- There will be as little English spoken in the class as possible
- I will help the students find the right word(s) and do some corrections, however we will not be going in details of grammar or lengthy explanations.

General topics discussed in class:
⇢ Week 1: Let's talk about hobbies!
⇢ Week 2: What are your favorite foods?
⇢ Week 3: Where would you like to travel to?
⇢ Week 4: Do you love or hate homework?
⇢ Week 5: Your favorite pets and animals (learners' request)
⇢ Week 6: Action verbs + Charades game
⇢ Week 7: All about you: Where are you from? How old are you? etc... (learners' request)
⇢ Week 8: Location and directions (learners' request)
⇢ Week 9: Your favorite sports to watch or play (learners' request)
⇢ Week 10: Ordering at a restaurant (learners' request)
⇢ Week 11: Trip to the Zoo or to a National Park! (learners' request)
⇢ Week 12: Ordering at a restaurant: Traditional Russian dishes (learners' request)
What topic would your learner like to talk about? Join us and let us know.:)

Note: I am very excited to work with your learner and see them progress towards Russian language mastery. I also want to be 100% transparent with you that this class requires a minimum of 3 learners to be enrolled for the class to take place. We need more then 1 student to participate, as an important part of the class is students practicing talking to each other and hearing other students talk. As most classes do meet the minimum enrollment, I of course hope we won't have to cancel any classes.

Learning Goals

To practice, practice and practice. Learners will naturally acquire language skills over time, using repeated exposure, listening and speaking about the subject matter presented for the week.

Being a multilingual, I am well aware of the challenges that a student is facing when learning a new language. I know it can appear difficult, or even scary, and sometimes frustrating , but learning a new language can be fun too. Additionally, I know that the biggest challenge when learning a new language for many students is to speak. Being surrounded with pears, we will make mistakes together and learn from each other, practicing and building our confidence.

Russian is my native language. I am a certified teacher with 3 years experience, teaching in person and online. I am very patient and flexible, but most importantly I want your child to succeed while having fun. I work with students who are looking to speak more fluently and want to achieve a deeper understanding of the Russian language and Russian culture.
