Homework
1 hour per week. Learning should be fun but the real enjoyment comes when you start to succeed. A good amount of time is 10-20 mins a day most days of the week of purposeful practice. A few minutes a day has far more benefits than 1 hour on a Sunday and nothing all week. Pick somewhere away from distractions to further benefit from this time and try to keep your guitar handy so you can easily pick it up if you get a few minutes here and there.Assessment
I will provide an informal assessment on a lesson by lesson basis via the Outschool message portalClass Experience
Whether you are a beginner or already play I offer lessons on Acoustic, Electric, Bass guitar and Ukulele. You will learn the basic essentials of the instrument and the theory behind what you learn using songs and pieces you want to play. These are 1-2-1 lessons so can be tailored to the length, tastes, styles and abilities of the individual student and can be weekly, biweekly or as and when required although I recommend some level of continuity. For beginners I start by teaching the common elements that appear in virtually all popular music from a variety of genres, then how to apply these elements to songs in the tastes and styles of the individual student. If they have already started playing, we will underpin these elements so students can identify them firstly in what they already play then apply these to any songs they wish to learn going forward. These elements include chords, counting the beats, how to improve the smoothness and confidence changing chords, strumming and picking as well as creating a suitable practice environment and timetable to maximise their enjoyment of learning. No previous experience is required but students need to have regular access to their chosen instrument both for use in the class and for practicing between lessons. The rate is $27 for a 30-Minute lesson and because they are ongoing you can start or leave at any time. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or require more details specific to your child.
Learning Goals
Each student is an individual with different aims and ambitions but all lessons aim to help the student:
Develop a good understanding of their instrument, names of the strings and how to tune it up.
Understand chord boxes and how to translate these onto the guitar.
Master the most commonly used counts and beats used in popular songs and the strums and fingerpicking required to play those songs.
Become familiar with a proper left and right hand technique and how to adapt it to suit as required.
Understand Chord Sheets, Tablature and Music Theory as applicable to the material being learnt at the time.
Enjoy Playing.

Teacher expertise and credentials
"Playing Guitar has been a big part of my life since my late teens. Now with over 40 Years’ experience as a guitar coach and 20 years as a technical trainer in the financial industry, I have come to realise that it is not just about how to do something but how you feel by achieving your goal and what you might be missing if you don’t give yourself that chance.
Has anyone out there tried learning to play guitar at least once in our life and given up a few times as well? I know I have, but somehow, I found the strength to start up again and so thankful that I did. Encouraged by my own positive experiences, a key feature of my coaching is helping my students to identify those causes and work to eliminating them. Also, there are no secrets to the benefits that music can bring to our general health & wellbeing and this is another key element of my coaching.
These days I cover Acoustic, Electric and Bass Guitar plus Ukulele and Music Technology for those that maybe find a conventional musical instrument daunting and want to explore the vast wealth of opportunities available using your computer, tablet or smartphone to make and enjoy music. I am a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors at the London College of Music and have current DBS Checks (Disclosure and Barring Service) in place for both Children and Adults.
So, if you feel that you could benefit from this approach to learning a musical instrument or you know of someone that might then I look forward to hearing from you – Keep Calm, Play Your Guitar and Enjoy!"
