Welcome future biologists and nature lovers! Did you know that you have probably eaten or used algae today or in the past? This class is perfect for those looking into the study of biology or ecology and the relationships we humans have with plants and our environment. In Outschool classes, students get to join in from around the world. Not only will students learn about the biology and ecology where they live but also from other students from around the world. Students will learn about the properties of algae, where they live, and how we use and depend on them. We’ll use pictures and slides and demonstrate with live samples of algae in the lesson. For class, learners only need to bring their curiosity but they’re also encouraged to bring their notebook or journal to class with some colored pencils or pen for sketches and note-taking. Some students may even have an aquarium or terrarium with their own samples of algae or water plants to show off! We may even have some recipes for eating it, now wouldn’t that be a surprise?
Learning Goals
Students will be able to describe algae and learn about what they are, how important they are to us, and the many ways people have used them around the world.
