Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 8
Beginner - Intermediate Level
This IEW course is ideal for students who want to learn IEW's first two units: taking notes and writing from notes.

Students learn to make a keyword outline by taking notes on a provided source text. We will complete the keyword outline together. Learners will give ideas and practice telling back the text from their notes.

Example topics will vary across subjects and may include writing about ants, comets, sea creatures, or plants. Aesop's Fables may also be used as an example source text. Assignment topics will come from various IEW books I have taught as an accredited IEW instructor.

I will use slides to teach students how to make a keyword outline. After I model what to do, students can practice the skill independently in class as we complete the keyword outline together.

Additionally, after class, students will be assigned a paragraph to write from their keyword outline. Learners may submit their paragraphs to me for review.

Students may choose to provide the source text from their assignment.
