It was not until I discovered IEW that I realized the true art of teaching writing. In the IEW curriculum, the writing process, style, and structure are broken down into manageable steps, providing students with a systematic approach to essay writing. Each stage builds on the previous one, guiding writers through the complexities of crafting a well-structured essay. The curriculum teaches students to ask the right questions, analyze their own writing critically, and apply specific techniques to improve clarity, organization, and style. This rigorous program challenges high school students to master the fundamentals while developing advanced writing skills, equipping them to confidently tackle complex essays. By following a step-by-step process, students gradually move from guided practice to independent, polished writing, enabling them to produce thoughtful, well-constructed essays on their own. Students will move through logical progression in writing while using prewriting techniques in order to develop an understanding of writing pursuasive, expository, compare and contrast, and analysis essays. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills as well as confidence in writing while gaining a better understanding of style and voice, revision and editing, supporting evidence and logical reasoning. Overall, Elegant Essay Writing Lessons focuses on teaching high school students how to write well-organized, clear, and persuasive essays with strong arguments, logical flow, and stylistic finesse. In each course students will participate in pop quizes, minilesson instruction, preliminary instructions, which is oftentimes modeled for learners, practice skills with help, practice on their own and finally complete a final project paper. Students will have homework and must read a chapter before each class. Quizes are given to assess comprehension of these units. These classes include a mix of instruction from quizes, lecture, slides, discussions, grouped learning and workbook work sheets. I will walk students through and guide instruction clearly while being available to my students for any needs that might arise. I'm a relaxed and patient teacher who will dedicate my time to all of my students to ensure they are successful in this task. This course runs for 15 weeks. To register, please sign up within the first 4 weeks. During the first 4 weeks, we will review foundational skills, which some students may have already mastered, while others may need more practice. Hello, I am Ms Velvet.
ABOUT ME: As a teacher, I believe that we should provide students with the skills and opportunity to learn and grow. I think that students are more apt to care what you know, when they know that you care and I hope that I live that philosophy out in my classroom. I am excited about teaching and passionate to guide students learning.
Personally, I absolutely love reading. There is a book by Dr Suess that really does so much more than entertain. It is called " Oh, the Places You Will Go." Believe it or not, it was a college graduation gifts many moons ago. This book truly sets people of all ages up for success! While there are many quotes I could pull from this fabulous writing, my favorite is “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” - This quote emphasizes the idea of self-direction and the ability to choose your own path. I hope my guidance leads others to develop the confidence to choose the right path for them.
WHAT MAKES ME QUALIFIED: I am an experienced teacher in the classroom setting and a homeschooling mom. I have experience online as well. After teaching in the traditional classroom setting for many years, I started teaching virtually with my local school district. That was about 4 years ago. Now, I'm excited for the opportunity to teach virtually on outschool, to students all over the world.
