Description

Class Experience

By the end of these 4 session, students will have written 4 papers/paragraphs. They will understand how to make an outline from a larger text, selecting important and interesting facts, and write it into a paragraph. Students will understand the importance of a clear topic and clincher sentences in a paragraph. They will have learned several "dress-ups" and "sentence opener" style techniques.
I love what IEW does for student's writing. It gives them a clear rubric for what is expected. I have taken my own children through IEW 3 times each! I have taught IEW for the past 8 years taking hundreds of student through the process of learning to be solid writers.
We will work and get as much done in class as possible. Students should come to class with the Source text and the Outlining Template printed off. They should have 1-2 pieces of lined paper, a highlighter and something to write with. This will help them participate and do work while in class.
 2 files available upon enrollment
Please be able to submit papers via google docs. Handwritten papers can be scanned or photographed. Before class print the Source Document and Outlining Template 1-2 pieces of lined paper and writing utensils.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will review papers when they are turned in. At the end of the week, I will provide written feedback on strengths and areas to keep practicing.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
We will be writing about animals all content is age-appropriate and hopefully below reading level so the focus can be on writing not difficult content.
