Class experience

US Grade 4 - 7
The ultimate goal is to give students writing skills they can apply to any subject or topic. The hope is to equip them to write for life, not just "school." When finished with this coarse students will have learned an organized way to synthesize information and communicate it from their point of view. These invaluable skills can be taken and applied to a myriad of subjects.

If students complete Part 1 and Part 2 of this course they will have covered all 9 Units of IEW
I have been actively teaching IEW in a classroom of 9-16 students for 8 years and online for 3 years. It is my mission to make writing interactive and fun for my students. In addition, I have walked all 3 of my own kids through this program. I know how to use this program to guide the writer with "too many words" and encourage the writer with "not enough words."
Homework Offered
PREVIOUS IEW EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Units 1-5 Each week there will be a writing assignment. It is strongly encouraged that students complete all of the assignments. Every child differs greatly where they are in the writing journey and homework can take 1-4 hrs depending on assignment and child.
2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students are welcome and encouraged to turn in their papers for feedback. IEW utilized a checklist method for clearly communicating what is expected for each paper. Students will be encouraged to follow the checklist. I will review papers and provide positive constructive feedback but will not award letter or percentage grades. The focus of the class in writing and the writing structure and style. I will not correct spelling and in-depth punctuation. Basic quality spelling and punctuation usage is expected but perfection is not required.
