Homework
1-2 hours per week. Each week writing assignments of 1-3 paragraphs will be made and will be do the following class day. Papers are graded on a rubric, based on a checklist provided with each assignment.
Letter Grade

Syllabus: IEW Crash Course
Course Overview: This crash course provides an introduction or review of the IEW method and techniques, preparing students for a more in-depth course in the fall. Students will learn to outline, summarize, and enhance their writing with stylistic techniques and structural units.

Weekly Breakdown:
Week 1:
•	Units 1 & 2:
o	How to make an outline and writing from an outline.
o	Learn the first 3 dress-ups: -ly adverb, strong verb, who/which clause.
Week 2:
•	Unit 3:
o	Story Sequence Chart: Rewriting/Summarizing a short story from an outline.
o	Learn the last 3 dress-ups: quality adjective, because clause, www.asia clause.
Week 3:
•	Unit 4:
o	Summarizing a Reference.
o	Learn two sentence openers: #2 prepositional opener, #3 -ly adverb opener.
o	Write one paragraph on a subject and topic of your choice.
Week 4:
•	Unit 5:
o	Writing from Pictures.
o	Learn one more sentence opener and a decoration: #5 www.asia.b opener, alliteration.
Week 5:
•	Unit 6:
o	Summarizing Multiple References.
o	Learn one more sentence opener and one more decoration: #4 -ing opener, simile and metaphor.
o	Using the same subject as Week 3, research 2 more topics and write two more paragraphs.
Week 6:
•	Unit 7:
o	Inventive Writing.
o	Learn one more sentence opener and one more decoration: #1 subject opener, duals and triples.
Week 7:
•	Unit 8:
o	5 Paragraph Essay Report.
o	Adding an introduction and conclusion paragraph to your paragraphs from Week 3 and Week 5.
Week 8:
•	Unit 9:
o	Literary Critique.
o	Using your Week 2 story summary, add an introduction and conclusion to critique the original story read.
Week 9:
•	Review and Share:
o	Review all units and techniques learned.
o	Share and discuss completed assignments and progress.

Homework:
Assignments will be given weekly and should be completed before the next class. Homework will include outlining, summarizing, and writing using the techniques learned in class. Assignments can be uploaded to the classroom for feedback.

•	This course is designed to prepare students for advanced IEW courses.
•	Regular feedback and support will be provided to ensure students understand and can apply the techniques effectively.
This crash course will provide a solid foundation in IEW methods, enabling students to tackle more complex writing tasks with confidence in future courses.
