Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this 5-day interactive camp, we are going to read I Survived: The Shark Attacks of 1916, from the New York Times bestselling series, I Survived. In each class, we will work on different skills. These skills include comprehension, predictions, vocabulary, and researching. Each class I will share shark facts about different shark species. We will also work together on tracking and graphing a great white shark using the Ocearch database. Your child will learn about 2 different types of graphs–- line plots and bar graphs,–- and they will practice graphing different data that they collect using the Ocearch database.

We will also discuss shark facts on great white sharks, bull sharks, tiger sharks. These three sharks are considered the "big three" and are most commonly found in areas where humans enter the water.

Please note: Your child's device MUST support Java in order to see the Shark Profiles. You can check this by going to www.Ocearch.org, selecting a shark species, clicking on a shark Ping, and selecting the "Shark Profile" button along the sidebar. If the shark's weight/length data does not appear, then your browser/system does not support Java.

I love to learn about sharks. I had originally wanted to pursue the Marine Biology field into college, but decided against that once visiting different colleges. I grew up near the areas that this book was based on. When I travel up and down the beach of the east coast, I usually check out the Ocearch database to see what activity is near the beaches that I am visiting.
