In this twice-a-week book club, we’ll read I Survived the American Revolution, 1776 by Lauren Tarshis. Students will follow the story of survival during a key moment in history while improving reading comprehension and exploring themes like bravery and resilience. Students will read, discuss, and analyze the book while learning about the American Revolution and building vocabulary. Group reading and vocabulary activities. Comprehension questions, group discussions, and fun activities connecting the book to real history. My teaching style is interactive and supportive, with group readings, discussions, and creative tasks. Students will share ideas, answer questions, and participate in activities throughout the class. By the end of this course, learners will have a stronger understanding of the American Revolution and confidence in their reading skills.

We’ll meet the main character, introduce the historical setting of the American Revolution, and discuss what it means to “survive” in tough situations. Students will make predictions and learn key vocabulary words like revolution and liberty.

Chapters 2–3 – Understanding the Setting & Conflict
We’ll read together and explore the challenges the main character faces as war approaches. Students will discuss how the setting impacts the story and identify early signs of conflict.

We’ll analyze how the main character responds to danger and make inferences about his survival strategies. Vocabulary words like patriot and loyalist will be explored in context.

Parental Guidance
