I Spy Zoo Animals! (Spanish Immersion Beginner Class)
In this one-time class, students will learn zoo animal vocabulary in Spanish and play fun games such as I Spy or “Veo, veo”. They will also listen to a classic zoo story at the end.

Does your little learner love zoo animals and games? Then, this is the class for you! In this one-time Spanish Beginner Immersion class, we will begin by greeting each other, putting on our Spanish ears and singing a hello song. Then, the zoo animal vocabulary will be introduced by using catchy slides and video clips. Next, we will sing a fun animal song and play interactive games like I Spy or “Veo, veo” to practice the vocabulary. We will end by reading the classic zoo story, Good Night Gorilla or “Buenas Noches Gorila”. There will also be a coloring animal worksheet that can be done at the end of class to further practice the vocabulary. This is a great class for beginners! No Spanish experience is necessary. This class will be taught in mostly Spanish. The class will be about 80% in Spanish and 20% in English. I will use English when necessary for clarification and support of various learner’s needs. I am looking forward to meeting your student and learning, singing and playing games in this fun-filled, all immersion style class.

Hello! ¡Hola! My name is Maria Cortez. I am a current Elementary School teacher and I love teaching languages especially to the younger learners. I believe that language learning opens doors to so many positive experiences. I am fluent in both English and Spanish, a native speaker of both. I also enjoy teaching reading, writing and science.
I have been teaching for 17 years at schools across New York City. I’ve taught in public schools as a dual-language teacher (English/Spanish) and currently teach at a private school in Manhattan as a Spanish teacher. I have taught English Language Arts, Math, Science, Phonics, Grammar and Social Studies. I currently teach the grades Pre-Kinder to 4th Grade and I specialize in creating engaging language lessons for young learners. I have a Bachelor’s in Psychology and Political Science and a Master’s of Education with a Concentration in Bilingual Education.
I believe learning should be child-centered, engaging and fun. Students learn best when they are fully engaged in what they are learning. I like to create lessons which provide lots of opportunities for student participation. I like to include puppets, games, interactive activities, songs, videos and art.
My hobbies include yoga, cycling, reading, spending time with family and friends and discovering new things to do in my amazing home of New York City. I am an avid traveler who loves to try new cuisines from around the world especially while visiting new places.
