Class Experience

This 1 hour class is a perfect art class for any dragon lover! Harry Potter fans, Dungeon and Dragon players and those who appreciate mythical beasts, all know the symbolism of the dragons eye and how fantastic it is. Now they can adorn themselves with their very own, one of a kind, Dragon's eye jewelry pendant. This dragon's eye can also be used as a journal decoration, dice bag decoration or more!
The class will be a live step by step instructional time, where you will be creating your pendant along with me and the other students. I will guide you through the easy steps, using an additional camera pointed on my hands. This view can help guide students easily through the process step by step. We will be using a glue gun, so please make sure you are comfortable using one. I will talk about some safety tips with using the glue gun and then we will prep our materials for creating. Each student will be designing their own pendant and dragons eye, with painting tips and help. We will learn faux finishes with paint to create fun and realistic skin and scales. After the class you will have at least 1 pendant to adorn you on your future magical quests! This idea can also be used to decorate a journal cover, dice bags or boxes and more. Once you know how to make one, you can make dozens. Its a lot of fun and so easy!

Learning Goals

Students will be using hand dexterity and coordination to create this pendant. They will be cutting out pieces and designing their own pattern. They will paint the faux eye as well as learn faux finishing techniques to create painting effects. They will be gluing all the pieces together and end with a final unique creation.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! Let's make something you design and create! I am a doll maker by trade and own a small business selling eco friendly sewn toys. I have a background in textiles and art with a BS from Philadelphia college of Textiles and Science and have attended Massachusetts College of Art and Moore College of Art. While studying textiles in Scotland, I was inspired by their openness to experiment with random materials and craft in very different ways. This idea has stayed with me and has grown into an interest into many craft forms, playing with unusual and varied materials.
I started making Art quilts and Art dolls, some of which have been published. I spent years painting furniture, rooms and murals and love playing with faux finishing techniques and paint materials. I have always been interested in archeology and indigenous craft, and am inspired by their use of color and detail. On the side, I also design posters, flyers and logos for local non-profits.
I am, most importantly, a homeschooling mom of a 11 year old boy and I have been teaching kids, ages 3-10, at different cooperatives during the past 6 years. A big philosophy in my classes, is that there are no mistakes, only accidents we can learn and grow from. I have taught many classes ranging from Comic Books, Textile Arts, Paper Engineering, Paper Circuitry and Play n Learn Math to 2-D Art, Sewing, Mindfulness and Archeology. I look forward to sharing my love of cultures, art and craft with your kids!
