In this course, students learn and strengthen writing skills by crafting an opinion and an expository essay.

Every student has the ability to improve and strengthen their writing. From students that need a little extra help to students that possess excellent writing skills, there is always room to create and achieve new learning goals. In this four-week course, students will learn and/or review the conventions and standards of English writing. Students will learn and follow the steps in the writing process. Students will learn the elements of opinion and expository essays. Students will be to write introductions with an engaging hook and a thesis. Students will be able to construct well-developed paragraphs with clear topic sentences and smooth transitions. Students will gain an understanding of the importance of reviewing written work for conciseness, clarity, and grammar.
Homework Offered
Students will submit final drafts of their typed essay within one week after class #2 and #4. Late work (unless extenuating circumstances) will not receive feedback. Parents Please Note: I will keep homework to a minimum, but students that take this course need opportunities outside of class to apply what they have learned to their writing. I also feel it is important for their work to be reviewed and given feedback, so that they begin taking accountability for their own learning.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

The learner is assessed through written feedback of each assignment submitted.Grades Offered
2 files available upon enrollmentOnce students are enrolled, I will upload the workbook for the class. The workbook will include all of the written homework assignments, essay writing prompts, and student examples.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
