This course will teach the learner how to turn their favorite thing to do into a "How To" book for their peers. Writing their own book will also help learners build writing stamina, read better, understand narratives written by others, improve comprehension skills, and develop self-confidence. It will require focus and consistency, but the end reward is glorious! In the course, we will also cover topics such as: -Outline -Organization -Research -Formatting -Editing -Design -Marketing -Self-publishing Students will need access to Microsoft Word, Canva, and an Amazon account (to set up a publishing account.) We will use Canva.com and Amazon's cover creators to create book covers. We will use the book 'How To Write Non-Fiction: Turn Your Knowledge Into Words (Books for Writers)' as our textbook. The textbook will be digital and assigned through Epic Books, and there will be a digital version to print out if necessary. I prefer the learner to read and write on their grade level or above, but exceptions can be made. We can discuss diction using the Google voice typing tool if the learner has challenges.
Learning Goals
By the end of the twelve weeks, students will have learned how to write a "How To" book. They will learn how to edit, format, and design their book. They will know how to set up a publishing account on Amazon, design a book cover using Canva or Amazon book creator, PUBLISH their book, market it online, order a copy for themselves and share their book with the world!
Students will also have the opportunity to purchase their own ISBN to ensure distribution in more places than Amazon.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Young writers need motivation, support, and resources to succeed in publishing a book. I've always enjoyed telling stories and writing. During my primary school years, I especially loved it when others listened to or read my stories. Unfortunately, I lack the information and resources needed to expand my audience. Family and friends were great, but I wanted to reach strangers too. It wasn't until I was 26 that I gained the confidence to journey into the world of published authors. I had my first book published in 2012 and went on to publish four more after that. I want the learners to know; it doesn't have to take that long. Young writers can write the book or books of their dreams and publish for the world to read.
