Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Students will learn how World War 2 began. During the first week we will look at Germany and their economic condition imposed by the Treaty of Versailles which ended World War 1. We will see how this led to Hitler's rise of power. How was the world so blind as to Hitler's intentions? What was public opinion of Hitler in Germany? We will explore all of this in week 1. In week 2, we will look at appeasement and the response from other European countries. How did other countries seek to avoid war? What concessions did they make to Hitler? In weeks 3 and 4, we will look at the Holocaust. Students will learn who was affected by the Holocaust, why they were targeted, and what occurred in Germany and around Europe/ In week 5, we will look at how the US got involved and how it changed the outcome of the War. What difference did the Americans make? What difference did the Atomic Bomb make on the war and how would World War 2 and its aftermath set up the Cold War that would follow? Students will examine all of these questions throughout this class.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of World War 2 through lecture and interactive quizzes. Each week, students will learn how a series of events led to a World War that involved most of the globe. Students will learn how one man's hatred would have a profound effect on groups of people. And will also learn how two bombs would guide foreign policy for close to fifty years/
