Beginner Level
Supplies: Learners will be expected to purchase a beginner level kit (online, from a craft store, or from a dollar store) that they would like to work on during this class. This is encouraged over buying supplies individually to guarantee you have everything you will need, as a kit will have most of these items, including: - pattern - Aida fabric - embroidery thread or floss in colors corresponding to the pattern - blunt cross stitch needle - small embroidery hoop (You might also need scissors for cutting thread.) Topics Covered: In this class we will go step by step to learn and practice the basics of counted cross-stitch: Starting and ending a piece of floss, threading a needle, using an embroidery hoop, finding the middle of a pattern and piece of fabric, dividing our floss into sections, following a pattern, and possibly even finishing our projects. Learning with a teacher is better than just reading the instructions included with the kit because students can feel free to ask me any questions they may have and we can problem solve together if any issues arise. Learners should be able to hold an embroidery needle and use scissors safely on their own.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to do basic cross-stitch stitches, put the fabric on the embroidery hoop, and read the pattern that comes with the kit.
