Class Experience

This class will teach the basics of starting and running a small business. This is an introductory level course and we will talk about the fundamentals: Commitment to a goal, the importance of passion, concepts of supply and demand, and how to turn your passions and interests into a money making enterprise.
Learners can take this class as a stand alone or as part of a series of workshops that will be offered in the near future and which will address specific business topics and "next steps" from initial idea to launching and beyond.
Class will include a brief overview of relevant terms, including a "take-home" worksheet for learners to complete (optional), a discussion and analysis of examples of successful child / teen entrepreneurs (either narrated by me or through the use of carefu, and a designated time for the learners to write down a self-analysis of interests, passions, and strengths. There will be time for leaners to share their findings with the group and receive feedback from their peers and the teacher.
Learners need to be adept at writing, following directions, and providing feedback to peers in an honest and supportive way.
Learning Goals
Students will walk away with basic understanding of the following concepts: Business, profit, entrepreneurship, customer, risk/reward, services vs. goods. Students will also walk away with a better understanding not only of how businesses work in general, but also with insights about their own interests, passions, and strengths - and of how that can be applied to a business in real life.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Besides being a business owner myself, I have worked in the business arena for over 15 years in various capacities and with businesses that range from micro-stores to large, multi-million dollar companies with a global presence. I was a business major in college and have done post-graduate course work specifically in the field of small business consulting. Small and emerging businesses are near and dear to my heart.
