What's included

1 live meeting
1 hrs 30 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. This project requires the student to have fabric and other supplies ready to use before class starts. Fabric can be found at many local craft or quilt shops, Amazon, Etsy or other online fabric stores. Pre-wash your fabric so that it will get it's shrinking done before we sew on it. Print your patterin in LANDSCAPE - it will not be the correct size if it's in portrait. You will see a posting in the classroom with information on how to prepare your pattern and fabric before class starts. If the student complete the steps before class, we will have more time to focus on sewing in class.

Class Experience

This class requires the student already have beginner sewing machine knowledge: threading a machine, sewing straight lines, and sewing corners. If your student has done these techniques before, he or she will be successful in this class. If your student requires this knowledge, please see my Introduction to the sewing machine class.
Younger students will most likely require an adult or older sibling to be beside them to help navigate the instructions in the lessons.

This class also requires the student to have materials prepped and ready to sew before class starts. This may require planning several days in advance on the part of parent and student to ensure the student isn't behind when class starts. After enrollment, please watch for an email regarding some preparation your student will need to do before class starts.
**Refund Policy
All One-Time classes have a standard refund policy: "Full refund until a week in advance, or within 24 hours of purchase (until class starts)."

CLASS OBJECTIVES
Objective 1 - The student will be able to cut out fabric using the pattern pieces correctly by understanding pattern information.
Objective 2 - The student will be able to put layers of fabric together accurately and quilt them by the end of class.
Objective 3 - The student will be able to trim corners, turn a project right side out, and manipulate the fabric to create straight edges and clean corners by the end of class.
Objective 4 - The student will be able to edge stitch accurately by the end of class.

CLASS OUTLINE

Objective 1 - Students prepare their patterns that have already been printed for them. I will demonstrate how to tape the pieces together on the dotted lines and how to cut the pattern correctly on the solid lines. Students will then perform the task on their own. I will explain the pattern markings and words and how they relate to making the project. I will demonstrate how to cut the fabric using the pattern by pinning correctly and cutting patiently. Students will then cut their fabric pieces using the pattern.

Objective 2 - Students will read the directions for the first few steps. I will then demonstrate the first few steps of preparing the pocket piece and layering the fabric. Students will then perform these steps. I will demonstrate how to mark their sewing lines in order to quilt the pocket piece into sections. Students will then perform the steps as I trouble shoot any issues or questions they have.

Objective 3 - I will explain the purpose of trimming corners and show the students how to do it. Students will then do this on their own. We will turn our projects right side out and manipulate the fabric to ensure edges and corners are out all the way. I will teach the students how to carefully press their project using the iron.

Objective 4 - I will demonstrate how to close the opening and edge stitch the project. As students finish this task I will observe, correct and help as needed. Students will then be shown how to add their ribbon and add their ribbon.

PLEASE SEE STUDENT SUPPLY LIST TO ENSURE YOUR LEARNER IS PREPARED for this class. The sound of the machines will be very distracting as well, so I will expect students to keep their microphones muted during their work time.

Please contact me anytime with questions or concerns.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
My passion for sewing goes hand in hand with teaching. Helping others learn the art of sewing either as a hobby or future career is my goal. I teach ages 7+ beginner classes, starting with threading a machine and building techniques to work toward sewing Independence through projects and samples. I have several private students who work on intermediate and advanced protects.

I previously taught high school sewing and fashion design for 7 years before stepping away to be a stay at home mom. I still love to share knowledge with others so teaching on Outschool has been a perfect fit

I believe people learn best through experience so my classes are project based. Each project has specific techniques that we will focus on mastering that can applied to future projects. Some projects require a prerequisite course to ensure specific knowledge is acquired for success.

A fun side note- Although I continue to teach, I also do custom clothing and alterations on the side. I've created fun costumes like Princess Peach and Princess Jasmine dresses and even a Zelda recreation!
