Class Experience

Let's build an Among Us video game character together. This class will teach students how to create their first 3D video game character in Blender. Students should have some basic knowledge of 3D modeling or know how to create basic shapes, navigate in a 3D space and be able to move scale and rotate objects in a 3D modeling program equivalent.

Students will learn all about edit mode in Blender. Learners will be introduced vertex, edge and face modes and be shown how to modify basic geometric shapes using these 3 modes. The teacher will then introduce the concept of modifiers and demonstrate and use the mirror and subdivision surface modifiers and we will cover the basics of materials (painting our model using colors)

Students will be introduced to the following modeler tools:
Bevel
Extrude
Inset
loop cut
Mirror tool
Subdivision Surface tool

The teacher will then demonstrate how each tool works and learners will then practice using each tool and experimenting with them. Once students feel comfortable we will make our video game Astronaut. Their creation can then be used in video games and 3D printing.

Learning Goals

Students will deepen their understanding of 3D modeling
Learn new modeling techniques and tools

I’ve been creating 3D models and animations for over 15 years, working with programs like Blender and other industry tools. For the past 7 years, I’ve taught students of all ages how to bring their ideas to life in 3D — from simple shapes and characters to full animation projects. My classes focus on creativity, hands-on learning, and building confidence in digital art and animation.
