Beginner Level
My animal drawing club for beginners is the perfect way for young artists to develop their drawing skills and learn how to sketch animals in a realistic style. Class Structure: Each week, students will: - Sketch a different animal using a drawing pencil, starting with simple shapes like circles, ovals, and squares. - Draw a background based on the animal's natural habitat (e.g., jungle, savanna, ocean). - Color the animal and environment using colored pencils. - The class is designed for all skill levels—no prior experience necessary! What to Expect: Step-by-Step Guidance: The instructor draws alongside students, explaining each technique in detail. Students can ask questions and show their work for feedback during the class. Encouragement & Motivation: The instructor offers constant support, ensuring each student feels confident in their progress. Classes are interactive and designed to be enjoyable, with positive reinforcement throughout. Attendance: The class will begin on time. In order to create a smooth class for my students, I will have to continue forward if a learner arrives late. All of my classes are recorded. If a learner arrives late to the class, I will encourage them to watch the recording after class to catch up on anything they may have missed. List of animals we will draw each week in class: February 2025 Week of the 10th: Platypus Week of the 17th: Hippopotamus Week of the 24th: Zebra in the Savanna March 2025 Week of the 3rd: Great White Shark Week of the 10th: Koala Week of the 17th: Butterfly Week of the 24th: Komodo Dragon Week of the 31st: Meerkat April 2025 Week of the 7th: Okapi Week of the 14th: Coral Reef Week of the 21st: T-Rex (Dinosaur) Week of the 28th: Orangutang May 2025 To be announced
Learning Goals
I want my students to develop their drawing skills and show them sketching and shading techniques that can help them in future drawings they do in their own.
I teach them to think of what we draw in a simple way. Going step by step we “build” the animal we are drawing using simple and familiar shapes such as ovals and triangles.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I’m a fine artist working out of my home studio in South Carolina. I have been a fine artist since 2013 and an art teacher since 2021.
I specialize in watercolors, colored pencils, alcohol and Posca acrylic markers as well as
acrylic paints. I greatly enjoy painting and drawing realistic animals, landscapes and
cityscapes. I also make pet portraits in my own artistic style. I love drawing all kinds of wildlife such as cats, dogs, lions, whales, dolphins and more in their natural habitats. Everyday I discover new animals to draw and paint and I love sharing these with my students.
I love teaching and sharing what I have learned with others about drawing, painting, sketching and animal anatomy.
In 2023 I started teaching art classes on Outschool to children and teens. Teaching has helped me learn how to explain art concepts to my students as well as improve my own art skills.
I enjoy using vibrant, rich colors that may not be natural to the
subject, but give it an interesting and striking appearance. I like to
highlight the main subject with light and shadow giving it form and
depth.
When creating my artwork, I start with choosing the person or
animal I want to draw. I then either browse photography websites until I
find a reference photo I really like or I draw from my imagination. From
there I work on coming up with a composition and color scheme.
I am constantly working towards improving my craft and
furthering my skills as a fine artist. By doing this, I can improve my work
and better educate my art students.
Reviews:
"My daughter loves this class! And I love seeing her animal drawing after. Last week was an otter floating on its back and it was so adorable. This is greatfor any kiddo who wants to learn drawing techniques and drawing animals from a very patient and engaging teacher." April T.
"My daughter is 12 years old, likes to doodle and loves animals. She had a wonderful session with Andy. He is calm and his instructions were very easy to follow. He provided feedback to her as the class progressed. She drew a clownfish with him and it is one of the best drawings that she has ever created." Jessica W.
