This lesson will teach students how to draw a monkey using basic shapes and then complete a journal activity. The students will describe their monkey and answer the question, “If I took my monkey to school (or home), it would?” This lesson is a fun and engaging way to help build strong writers. Many children love art but need more encouragement to write. This lesson will encourage their creative side and work on necessary writing skills with writing prompts. I encourage class input and discussion. I have been teaching children for over 15 years. I am a licensed intervention specialist and enjoy helping children reach their full potential. No prior experience necessary this is about having fun and learning at the same time. The lesson can be differentiated based on student knowledge and skill set.

Classes: I offer classes to preschool and elementary age children in a variety of areas from art and literacy to STEM activities.
Education/Experience: I am a licensed Intervention Specialist K-12. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix. I have taken continuing education courses in early childhood education and development for over 10 years.
I have been teaching young children since 2004. During summer breaks I enjoy hosting book clubs for children in grades 1st-5th.
My philosophy behind my teaching: My favorite part of teaching is seeing a child’s excitement when they master a new skill. I believe that preschool and elementary school is the perfect age to impact a child’s life in a positive way. Teaching them to love school and how to be a good friend.

Fun Fact: When I was in 2nd grade I was placed in a reading group because I was struggling to learn to read. I credit my amazing reading teacher who helped me to not only become a better reader by helped me to learn to love to read!
