Class Experience

Broken strings are a part of life for any violin student! Replacing broken strings on a violin is an important and necessary skill for anyone who is learning to play the violin. It can seem overwhelming at first, but with some guidance and practice, students can learn to change their own violin strings with confidence! Students will be given step by step instructions and demonstrations and then guided through the process of changing their own strings. This class is perfect for any students who need help replacing a string or for students who would just like to learn how it's done! In order to take this class, students must have some experience tuning their own instrument.

Hello! I am very excited to be teaching violin classes here on Outschool!

I am a violinist in the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, and I also play regularly with the Canadian Opera Company orchestra in Toronto, and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. Over the years I have also played with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, and I am also a member of the There Is Room violin and piano duo.

As well as playing the violin I also love to teach violin lessons! I have been teaching students of all ages for many years and it is such a joy to me to help people learn to make music on this wonderful instrument. Violin is a challenging instrument but I believe that everyone can learn to play. I think it is important to take a positive approach and celebrate every milestone along the way. I strive to make all the detailed technical work fun, while also helping my students feel proud of their accomplishments. My students develop an ease on the instrument that makes it much more fun to play the violin, and this is usually the key factor in whether they choose to continue. They can feel themselves improving and develop a real sense of accomplishment.

No matter what level, I will work at the pace of each student and design our lessons around their goals and personal learning styles.

Sign up for some lessons and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish!
