How to Be a E/F Reader by the End of First Grade

Beginner Level
Reading is an important skill needed to succeed in life. This class will offer strategies to help all students become more proficient in reading. This class provides students will practice that can help them get to the next level of reading.
       The students will have ample opportunities to read and practice concepts reviewed in class.  I will focus on each students needs and monitor their progress throughout class. I will also help them work on concepts needed to progress to the next reading level. The students will actively participate and work on strategies for their reading help.  
         In the class the students will decoding words and our lessons will be geared toward using the word work in class.  The students will also encode words during our hands-on lessons. I will introduce vocabulary from the book and the students will use these words in sentences. I will teach digraphs, vowel teams, r controlled syllables as well as many other phonics lessons. The syllabus heavily concentrates on phonics study and there will be many opportunities to use these concepts  while reading text. This class is designed to practice reading and be on level for second grade. We will also be working on reading comprehension skills such a making text to text connections, summarizing, making predictions, and retelling.Fluency will also be addressed in all of our lessons. 
       I believe that all children can be successful in learning how to read.  I want to motivate the students with important reading strategies and concepts needed to be successful for the beginning of second grade. I want them to feel confident and ready for second grade in the Fall!

Rhyming Words
 The students will recognize rhyming words.

 The students will blend sounds of letters to make words.

 Decode the digraphs Ch, Tch, and Th in word sort.
