**FLEX CLASS **
Is your student a fellow rock lover?! Have they ever wondered about the incredible Grand Canyon? They can join me on an adventure through time, as we explore these historic rock layers! What type of rocks are they? How did they get there? And when? And what will happen next? And what about that river at the bottom of the canyon? We'll explore these answers and so much more, through this journey of the amazing Grand Canyon!
This is a flexible schedule class, in which students will learn through discussions and activities in the classroom, in their own time. I will post videos each week, which students should watch within 24 hours. There will also be games/activities for students to participate in with each other, each week.

Week 1: Deposition. We'll start with learning about the first step of the formation of Grand Canyon. In this week's activity, students will watch my video to learn about how the dozens of layers of Grand Canyon were deposited, do some research on their own, then work as a group to build the canyon virtually, layer by layer!

Week 2: Uplift. In this week, we'll explore this second step in Grand Canyon's formation. This week's game will be hangman! Students will guess my word/phrase one letter at a time, until someone solves it. Then that student will get to choose the next word/phrase for the other students to guess. We will repeat this throughout the week, to encourage as much interaction between students as possible!

Week 3: Erosion. After learning about the final step in the canyon-creating process in my video this week, students will challenge each other to a scavenger hunt! Once one student finds the answer, that student will challenge the other students! Students are encouraged to post this as a video challenge/response.

Week 4: People of Grand Canyon. After learning about some groups of people who live or have lived in Grand Canyon, students will research a group of their choice, and post their findings in the classroom, either as a video or document upload. Other students should comment/question on each other's posts. In this week, students will also be able to share their personal stories of visiting Grand Canyon, and/or share if they have family/family history in the canyon. I am curious to see the similar experiences that students have had and can discuss with each other! This week's group activity will be to collaborate to write a story, as if we were taking a journey through Grand Canyon. Students will use what they have learned throughout the duration of the class and take turns adding a sentence at a time to the story, and build off of each other's ideas.

Hello! My name is Christine and I am a Colorado native. I have two awesome sons, who are 11 and 21. I love to travel, explore, learn and teach about nature! I have been to all 50 US states, about 22 countries and I can't wait to finally get to see the rest of the world!!
I have an Associate of Science, in geology, and a Bachelors in geography and environmental studies from the University of Colorado.
I have taught science, in a variety of settings, over the past 18 years. During that time, I also worked as a tour guide at a local commercial cave! Geology rocks isn't just a catchy pun, it's a passion! I teach a variety of geography and geology-related classes. My classes combine lots of interaction with hands-on learning. I find that most people retain more information through doing something than just reading about it.
