This is the second class in my "Hooked on You" crochet class series, however, taking the first class is not necessary. This is an intermediate crochet course in which students will review basic stitches and learn more complicated stitches such as the half-double crochet and the double crochet stitch. Students will need to have a basic foundational knowledge of crochet for this course, which is why the first "Hooked on You" class is recommended. The class will begin with introductions and then dive into our review portion where we will review the slip knot, chain, and single crochet. We will then learn the new stitches. If time allows, we will discuss project ideas that we can make with these stitches or share projects that we are working on or have completed in the past. Learners are able to stop and ask questions as we go if needed. This class is meant to be interactive between learners as well as between the teacher and the learners. I visually show the stitches and how to do them up close via a separate camera so that learners are able to see exactly what I am doing and replicate it with their own hook and yarn.
Learning Goals
Students will review foundational crochet skills and learn at least two new stitches.
Other Details
Supply List
Learners will need yarn and a crochet hook that matches their yarn size. A light-colored yarn is recommended so that the learner is able to see the stitches easier. If you have any questions regarding the materials, please reach out and I will do my best to assist.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Katarra, but the students call me Miss K because it's easier to remember and pronounce. I am a recent graduate of the University of Mount Union where I majored in Early Childhood Education, minored in K-12 Special Education, and also earned my 4th/5th grade generalist endorsement.
Here on Outschool, I plan to teach classes including but not limited to crochet, jewelry making, storytimes, and book clubs. I am so excited to be able to teach things that I am passionate about here on Outschool!
I have taught online for over a year teaching English to students in China, and have completed many different field experiences in different school settings throughout my time in college. These experiences have only further my passion for teaching and my love of learning.
My teaching style tends to be upbeat. I truly like to have a good time with the students, and I love to make them laugh or smile whenever possible. As a classroom teacher, I have always believed in the power of making children love to learn through laughter, and that carries over to Outschool as well. I know that if my students are having fun, it usually means they are learning! I try to cater to many different learning styles in my classes by presenting the information in different ways such as auditory, visual, and hands-on whenever possible.
Just for giggles, here is a fun fact about me! My left thumb is double-jointed which means I can pop it in and out of place. Cool, right?
