Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner - Advanced Level
This class is presented in an ongoing format. I have taught over 1,000 social club classes online for the last three years. I love getting to know every student, and watching them form friendships with each other. Your child can feel free to drop in for a week, a month, or make it part of their weekly schedule. I love the homeschool community so much, and have been a homeschooling mom for 13 years. I personally know how much work it is to integrate friendship opportunities in my kids' lives, and I hope that this club will help to fill that need for your child.

Each week, we will begin with a welcome from the teacher and class introductions.
The icebreaker is next. I will guide the conversations based on the icebreaker and theme that week.
An activity or game will follow that up. Each week will look a little different. If the girls are having fun doing something, I will follow their lead.

Nov. 13- "Get to Know You Week"
Icebreaker: What is your favorite thing to learn about in school?
Tell us about your school situation and yourself! We will make an acrostic of our
names and decorate it. (Bring some paper and pens, pencils, or markers to class
                on this day!)

Nov. 20- "Sweater Weather"
Icebreaker: What is your go-to outfit?
Tell us about how you decide what to wear that day and what your style is. Let's
                 design the perfect fall outfit.
                Fashion This or That

Nov. 27- "Thanksgiving Week"
Icebreaker: Name 3 random household items that you are thankful for and
                couldn't live without.
                Would You Rather: Thanksgiving Edition

Dec. 4- no class

Dec. 11- "Christmas Wishes"
What do you want for Christmas? What are your collections? Do you give any
               gifts to anyone else?
Let's make a Christmas card for someone we love! Bring paper and markers.

Dec. 18- "Favorite Christmas Memory"
Icebreaker: What is your favorite Christmas memory?
               Christmas Charades

Dec. 25- no class for Christmas

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am Katy Corbin. I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education, and have had fun using that in many different areas. I am a homeschooling mom with almost 13 years under my belt. I have enjoyed teaching early childhood development in the classroom, and social studies and writing classes at our homeschool co-op. I have taught in a virtual setting for the last six years- English and social clubs.

Homeschool Girls Friend Group (ongoing)
My social clubs include thought provoking conversation starters and fun activities that are relationship building. The goal of these clubs is to use thoughtful group discussions and activities that foster friendship, increase communication skills, and give confidence in social situations. At the end of the day, we all need a friend to connect with. The homeschool community has many avenues to develop friendship, and this is pretty fun one!

In my years as an online social club teacher, my goal has always been to create a happy environment where each student feels value and has a special place. I have seen so many kids gain significant social skills and make lasting friendships through my classes. If your child is looking for a place to belong, I would love to help create that place for them.

A little bit about me
Celebrating every holiday and event with my husband, three kids, extended family, and friends is where it is at! That involves parties, cooking, and having all of the people over! (Do you see why I love social clubs so much?!!)
I love getting to know people, and have made some good friends at some very random places. Crafting is so much fun for me, and I am always ready to learn something new.

Thanks for stopping by to look at my classes. I hope to see your child in one of them!
