Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
All About writing is a very exciting unit for young students to explore. This kind of writing is fun because students are very knowledgeable about many subjects and can teach an audience about many things in book writing.
In this class, students will learn about informational writing and think about topics in which they are experts on. They will think about topics , plan their pages, and write important facts in their all about books. Students will choose topics so that they can teach each other. Books can include ideas like places, sports, hobbies, animals, and more!
Our lessons will include modeling and exploring all about books with me. I will also teach what a fact and opinion is for clarification in our writing because should only contain pieces of information that is true. The students will create a web of true facts and name them across their fingers. Then they will sketch a picture and sometimes a diagram to illustrate the facts. For the last page, the students will write a sentence to go with their pictures. We will also learn about elaboration and add warnings to our writings.
The students will revise and edit their books so that we can get our books ready for publishing. We will share our writings and celebrate our accomplishments!

Week 1- We will learn about All About Books and make a list of topics we know a lot about.
Week 2- Writers will choose one topic they would like to write about.
Week 3- Writers narrow down their facts and decide what is important for a reader to know.
