Week 1: Chapters 1-7 Homework: Before class: Read Chapters 1 to 7 before the first class to establish the initial setting and characters of the story at Camp Green Lake. Week 2: Chapters 8-16 Homework: Before class: Read Chapters 8 to 16 to delve deeper into the challenges faced by Stanley and Zero, and the significance of digging holes at Camp Green Lake. Week 3: Chapters 17-31 Homework: Before class: Read Chapters 17 to 31 to uncover the family-related aspects of the story, including the tale of Kissing Kate Barlow. Week 4: Chapters 32-50 Homework: Before class: Complete the novel by reading Chapters 32 to 50 before the final class to discover how the story's various threads come together and find resolution. These homework assignments will ensure that participants come to each class prepared to engage in discussions, activities, and hands-on learning related to the specific chapters and themes covered that week. Reading ahead of time will enrich their understanding of the book and enhance the overall book club experience.

Ingredients for onion stew (we will be making this in a microwave, so it is a single serving and very "camp" friendly): 
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 small potato, peeled and diced
1/4 cup carrots, sliced into rounds
1/2 cup vegetable broth
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon olive oil (optional)
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
A mug or microwave safe bowl

Week 4: Chapters 32-50

Plastic bottle
Soil
Small plant or seeds
In week 3 we will be doing a cooking activity- we will be using knives and the microwave. Parental guidance is suggested.
