** New to Outschool? Use code MelanieWia2020 to save $20! ** A dictatorship allows the power of an entire country to fall into the hands-on of one man. In the first half of the 20th century, we see three very powerful, determined, and dangerous dictators gain complete control of their countries. This class is for anyone interested in history and specifically the time period surrounding World War Two. Students do not need to have significant prior knowledge as this class is intended to be informative. In this class, we will examine the rise and fall of three dictators who played a significant role in World War Two, Benito Mussolini, Joseph Stalin, and Adolf Hitler. We will dive into the causes that led them to gain power, their lives, reigns, and their eventual fall from the top. This class will explore questions such as "How did they maintain power?", "What were the lasting impacts of this individual's dictatorship?", "What made each of these men behave the way they did?" In this course, we will consider the techniques, personality traits, and fear tactics that were used by each leader to gain total control. These classes will each be structured with a slideshow presentation to help provide background material on each leader, questions to prompt the discussion, and a Kahoot in each class to test your knowledge of each dictator. You don't need to be an expert on any of these leaders, this class is intended to teach and engage students in discussion.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about the role of totalitarianism and dictatorship in a country.
Students will examine the lives behind each of these dictators to understand their rise to power.
