Do you like to hike? Have you ever used a physical map? This introductory class will show you how to identify terrain feature symbols on a topographical map and compare those symbols to the actual landforms in photos . In this class we will learn to identify major and minor land features such as hills, saddles, draws, spurs, valleys, rivers, depressions, and cliffs. Students will be introduced to the landforms in a brief presentation. Students will then practice identifying landforms in a jeopardy-style game. This class prepares students to learn to read a physical map and be able to use the map to orient themselves while in wilderness. I am happy to adapt this class for other grade levels. Please contact me, and I will happily adapt this class for other grade levels.
