Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
These sessions are designed for in-depth work in a 1:1 setting with a seasoned HS English teacher. The agenda will be determined in consultation with the student before class meets. However, sessions will follow the same basic structure: warming up with a priming task, deep-focused work on close-reading of selected passages with discussion that flexes between Socratic and coaching, and cool down that consolidates learning.

Students should expect to be reading aloud, thinking on their feet, and writing notes and drafts as needed.

Students find my style to be warm and inviting. I am known especially for my ability to break down complex tasks, such as reading about a book, thinking critically about some aspect of it, and writing those thoughts down in an organized, clear way.

Learning Goals

Students will develop their abilities to discuss texts in depth. Students will learn a research-based and systematic approach to developing their essay writing.
