Taught by a certified music teacher, this ongoing class will allow students to study a range of skills relating to music history, theory, and appreciation. Due to the fact that this is an ongoing course, students can join at any time. Each week will focus on a different topic. No background knowledge is required. Topics will include: Unit 2: Foundations to Music Theory Week 1: Sound and Pitch Week 2: Voices and Instruments Week 3: Rhythm Week 4: Melody, Harmony, Key Week 5: Musical Texture Week 6: Musical Form Week 7: Musical Performance and Style New topics will be added throughout the school year. Students will meet for a live lesson once a week with the instructor and will access platforms on their devices with the instructor’s guidance. Live classes are taught in a guided way in order to leave room for creativity and open discussion with understanding. Conversation and hands-on learning will support student-center learning. Students will use Nearpod to access class materials. No account will be needed. Learners will interact with the instructor and each other each time class meets. Discussions will be led in class in order to create a natural flow of collaboration for student-led projects. After each class, students will be given optional homework assignments to work on outside of class.
