Class experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Intermediate - Advanced Level
Students will learn how to closely read a poem with the intent of determining the authors purpose, as well as identifying literary devices that enable the author to communicate their purpose clearly. Students will make a text connections with the poems, their lives, and previous readings/academic knowledge.
I studied English Literature and Black Studies for my undergraduate degree and have a passion for the role that literature plays in our lives. Through my years of teaching, I have learned that people learn from others experiences and developing the empathy to make connections with those experiences is essential to achieve meaningful learning.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Some of the poems cover sensitive content and the discussions will address this content in an age appropriate manner.
