This is a great class for students who have never taken any French before but who don't want to start with "baby" stuff like the alphabet and counting! This is for students who want to talk about things that matter to them in French! Beginner French students will learn the basics in a small class setting from a certified French teacher. The class is not an immersion class, this class will be taught in English and grammar will be explained in English. Each class will consist of "notes" or explanations via either a slide presentation or short video, followed by speaking activities and concluding with practice games. Students will gain confidence in speaking French with a small group and a teacher to help practice correct pronunciation and grammar structures, which we will build on each week. Students will have a chance to talk about themselves, to ask questions of others, and to answer the teacher's questions, in this way getting to practice "real-life" French conversations. In addition to the in class practice each week, students will also be given a list of optional activities and resources they could continue to use to develop the skills on their own. This is based on over 10 years of teaching expertise and collected resources. At the end of the 10 weeks, students will be able to introduce themselves and share a bit about what they are like. The topics will be as follows: Week 1: Greetings and Introductions Week 2: Presenting myself and talking about friends/family and community members Week 3: Identifying hobbies and describing what I like to do Week 4: Describing myself and others Week 5: Identifying basic foods and talking about my food preferences Week 6: Talking about school subjects and some common school objects Week 7: Describing my home Week 8: Talking about my city and where I can go in my city Week 9: Discussing nature and animals Week 10: Review and practice (Quizlet live, Quizizzes, Kahoot, Gimkit).
Learning Goals
