Class experience
In this course, you will learn to develop basic skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Italian. I will teach conversational Italian and pronunciation, grammar, as well as Italian culture. Topics include food, travel, music, and daily activities. I encourage students to suggest new topics based on their interests. In this course, students will learn to understand and communicate in Italian in a range of everyday situations. Students will develop basic skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Italian, learn vocabulary, expressions, and how to talk about everyday and familiar topics. During the course, students will also learn about Italian culture and develop the study skills needed to learn a language. Session I Summary: Week 1: Introduction to the Italian Language. Discuss what makes Italian an easy language to learn and how we can speed up our learning. Similarities between English and Italian. Learn the sound of consonants and vowels in Italian, as well as some practical vocabulary words. Week 2: Introduction to conversations. How to use "le parole gentili", or polite words. Learn how to greet others and present ourselves. Week 3: Introduction to composite and complex sounds (gli, sce-sci, sche-schi) and how to read them within a word. Week 4: The numbers 1 -20. Counting by 10's up to 100. The parts of the body. Week 5: The days of the week. How to write the date. Introduction to small sentences. Week 6: The months of the year. Vocabulary regarding the weather. Review.
Homework Offered
I don't assign homework, but I encourage doing something throughout the week, such as picking out an everyday object and then learning its name in Italian, or choosing a favorite recipe we can translate while practicing vocabulary during the lesson.0 hours per week outside of class
